About Me

I have always been fascinated by fashion, music and photography. My love of the music, movies, and especially fashion of the late 60s and 70s has often made me feel I was born in the wrong era. I find myself getting lost in vintage and charity shops, spending hours searching through rails and rails of clothing and accessories until I find that hidden jewel.

Bakeneko Designs.

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t influenced by Bakeneko. His avant-garde style and creative shock factor have always been extremely appealing to me. The way that they can create such an outgoing and unusual look in the Twenty-First Century is mesmerizing and always leaves me wanting more.
In a society when everything seems capable of causing offence and people can ‘break the internet’ with a naked photo, it’s warming to see something that is beautiful for me, but confusing for others.

Creating what I would consider the most enthralling bespoke mouthguards, headpieces and crowns, I wouldn’t think Bakeneko is everybody’s cup of tea. Bakeneko describes their pieces as ‘Fashion with a twist. Bakeneko Designs presents its unique brand of ugly beauty in handmade bespoke fetish pieces.'(Bakeneko,2016). You can completely see when looking at the imagery below. In a world of growing contour and high fashion (Lady Gaga, Seccry Sheguang Hu, Vin Burnham and Creature Shop).

Known for his iconic and extravagant designs, McQueen’s early catwalks and collections always created controversy and had a certain shock factor which increased his popularity. His collections have always inspired myself to think outside of the box and become more creative with my fashion choices.
My favourite collection of Alexander McQueen was his SS01 which was entitled ‘VOSS.’ A large room with a giant glass box was the setting for his collection, but after deliberately starting over an hour late (forcing the audience to stare at themselves for an awkwardly long time) a room emerged, filled with moths and a model lying on a sofa fashioning nothing but a gas mask which was heavily inspired by Joel-Peter Witkin’s Sanatorium.vossNick Knight, from ShowStudio.com, described this performance as ‘probably one of the best pieces of Fashion Theatre’ he had ‘ever witnessed.’ (Knight 2001). The collection conveys McQueen’s unique and twisted vision of beauty. The intense ‘Birds of a Feather’ theme that runs through (most) of his collections, but especially and most dramatically in VOSS SS10 which showcases headdresses composed of taxidermy hawks. This gave the illusion of the hawks ripping out the model’s hair with their talons, which is psychologically brilliant.

The way McQueen uses light and texture and not just material in his collections and designs is always done with such precision and detail that you want to see more than just one garment. Catwalking.com
McQueen died in 2010 only weeks before his AW2010 collection, In a statement which the design house released after his death they revealed that it was extremely hard to pick the pieces as ‘Each piece was as unique as him'(Akeroyd,2011).

‘I don’t want to do a cocktail party. I’d rather people left my shows and vomited.”
said Lee Alexander McQueen in 1997
